Empowering Bolton’s Next Generation — The House of GB x Level Up Centre Story
Shaping Futures, One Skill at a Time
At House of GB Training Academy and Level Up Centre CIC, we’ve always believed that every young person deserves a shot at success — no matter their background, learning style, or prior experience. Over the past year, through powerful partnerships with Connexions Bolton, and thanks to the generous support of the Greater Manchester Fund and UK Government funding, we’ve turned that belief into real, measurable change right here in Bolton.
We’ve had the honour of delivering specialist hair and beauty introduction courses designed specifically for young people aged 15–18 who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). Many of our learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds, are neurodiverse, or have had a difficult relationship with mainstream education. These courses offer not just skills training, but a supportive, welcoming space to thrive.
Real Skills, Real Confidence
Every student on our programmes has passed — a massive achievement for individuals who may not have had success in traditional academic settings. From facials and hair treatments to basic nail care and brows, each learner now has a toolkit of skills they can use for:
• Entry-level employment in salons or spas
• Starting their own journey as a sole trader
• Further training or apprenticeships in the industry
More importantly, they’ve built critical life and customer service skills — confidence, communication, teamwork, and professionalism — shaping them not just for jobs, but for life.
Next Generation Bolton: A Stepping Stone to Success
Some of our most engaged learners have progressed onto the Next Generation Bolton programme, where they now attend House of GB one day per week to train in a live salon setting. Here, they work alongside professionals, developing real-world experience while still receiving mentorship and structured guidance. It’s an incredible opportunity that’s had an enormous impact on confidence, social development, and employability.
Giving Back While Learning
While training, our learners have also been delivering free beauty and hair services to the local community — a true win-win. Locals feel refreshed and cared for, and students gain valuable hands-on experience in a live environment. It’s community care in action — uplifting for all involved.
Year 11 Alternative Provision: Reigniting Passion in Education
Alongside our NEET support, we’ve been running a dedicated Year 11 programme for 15 young people who are currently home-schooled or outside of traditional school systems. As an alternative provision, this course offers them a new way to re-engage with learning, gain qualifications, and access a career path that respects their individuality and potential.
What’s Next? Connecting the Dots
We’re now reaching out to local businesses to partner on a referral programme — giving our learners the opportunity to move directly into paid work placements or jobs. This model benefits everyone: employers gain access to trained, motivated young talent, and young people take their next steps with the support and guidance they need.
Why It Works
Our model is different — and it works. Because we live it. Our educators have firsthand experience with alternative provision, neurodiversity, and youth work. We know how to bridge the gap between training and opportunity — unlocking creative potential that’s been overlooked for too long.
